Wednesday, August 11, 2010 is the Power Pledge Community Challenge.

On this day, communities throughout Ontario will compete to have the highest reduction in overall electricity use. They will also compete to have the highest percentage of residents who have signed the Power Pledge at www.powerpledge.ca.

Last year Greater Sudbury placed in the top five for reducing electricity use, with a 4% decrease on Challenge Day.

To maintain Greater Sudbury's good standing in this Challenge, residents of Greater Sudbury need to take action to reduce electricity consumption on Wednesday August 11.

EarthCare Sudbury is working with CGS Buildings and Facilities staff to ensure the participation of our municipal buildings. Athletes' Village sites for the Ontario Summer Games have also been approached.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Find out who manages the building you work in and what steps they can take to reduce electricity consumption at your workplace. The Power Pledge Challenge begins at 8am on Wednesday August 11 .
  2. Notify your friends and co-workers about the challenge and encourage them to participate.
  3. Circulate the Power Pledge poster (PDF 6.29 MB) among your friends and co-workers.
  4. Take the Power Pledge online at www.powerpledge.ca and cut down on the electricity your household uses.
