Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
Following the birth of your baby you should register your newborn so he or she will have a permanent legal identity.
This is the first step to ensure that you can get your baby's birth certificate, passport, social insurance number and other identity related documents.
City of Greater Sudbury births are now registered at the Office of the Registrar General. A Statement of Live Birth can be completed electronically or in paper format and sent directly to the Office of the Registrar General.
Delayed Birth Registration
If your child is over one (1) year old, you will need to do a delayed Birth Registration. Here are the steps needed to follow in order to make this process occur:
1) Apply for a birth certificate just as though the child was already registered, which can be done online with Service Ontario.
2) The ORG will acknowledge that the child is not registered and send out a Delayed Registration Package.
3) After completing the Delayed Registration forms, they will need to be commissioned (service available at the Clerk's Office, 200 Brady Street or any Citizen Service Centre) and mailed back to the ORG in Thunder Bay.
4) The ORG will process your application, register the birth of your child and send out a birth certificate.
For further information on the delayed birth registration process, please contact the ORG at 1-800-461-2156.
