By-laws

A by-law is a law passed by a municipality.  By-laws must be founded on statutory authority, delegated to the municipality by the Province.

It is intended to bind not only the Council, but also officers and servants of the municipality and the public.

Availability

For your convenience by-laws from 2001 to the present have been posted online.  To search for these City of Greater Sudbury By-laws online, please visit the 'by-laws online section of the website.  Paper copies are available through the City Clerk's office, contact: Janet Veale for a fee of $ .25 per page.  By-laws prior to 2001 may be requested through the City Clerk's office.

Zoning By-laws

Zoning By-laws are passed by City Council in accordance with The Planning Act to regulate the location and/or use of lands, buildings and structures within the municipality.

Availability

The City of Greater Sudbury is currently governed by 8 distinct Zoning By-laws, all of which are contained within this website, together with the applicable Zone Maps for all of these By-laws, with the exception of the Zone Maps for By-laws 2001-24Z & 2001-25Z. These latter Zone Maps are currently in production, and will be added to the website upon their completion.

The By-laws & Zone Maps are accessed through the Master Index. Clicking on the link in the document will take you directly to that By-law. The By-law will open with an index on the left and the By-law text on the right. Clicking on any section of the By-law in the index will take you directly to that part of the By-law.
